Mykonos

We arrived this morning in Mykonos about 7AM. This was the first port where rather than docking, we anchored off shore and had to take a smaller boat (tender) in. Each one holds about 100 people, so it was pretty easy to get a spot, and it was only a 5 minute trip to shore. There was another cruise ship that was docked, but it was smaller. Our ship is huge, so that's probably why we didn't get to dock.

Today was one of the cooler days that we've had; the high was only 65. Lots of wind today as well, so the water wasn't as calm as we've been used to. Nothing too bad, but it's the first time we've really been able to feel the ship moving. Since we're in the middle of the ship, it's normally pretty stable.

We only had a half day in Mykonos, but that was fine since it's a small island. It's a pretty place; all the buildings are painted white. There are lots of windmills, which are the symbol of the island. Supposedly there are also lots of pelicans, but we didn't see any. The town is full of winding streets and little restaurants and shops. We kept making wrong turns and going in circles, but it was fun to explore. So we spent the morning exploring and shopping. After lunch we headed back to the ship. The ship only stuck around for another hour before heading out. Zach got a little bottle of Greek brandy to try, so we sampled that out on our balcony as we left port.

This afternoon Zach checked out the casino and won some money playing poker. I decided to relax in the main atrium with a cup of coffee and a slice of chocolate mint cake. Yum! There were acrobats performing in the atrium, and after that there was a piano player. Some of our cruisecritic friends got a free upgrade to a suite, so they had a party this evening in their room. Most of the rooms on this ship are pretty good sized, but the suites are really big. So it was fun to check that out and it was a nice party. After that we had our anniversary dinner. We told them that it was our anniversary when we booked the cruise, and picked today to celebrate since it was exactly a month after. This morning they put up some Happy Anniversary balloons outside our room, and at dinner we got a little cake and the waiters sang Happy Anniversary to us. That was nice.

Tonight we continued our trivia dominance when our team won Pub Trivia. So we scored some tote bags. Here's a riddle from our trivia game (we eventually figured it out): What is this? The user doesn't know it, the buyer doesn't want it, and the maker doesn't need it. (No googling!)

Tomorrow is an early morning for Istanbul.
